Preparing for Laser Spine Surgery
When you have made the decision to invest in neurosurgery to cure your neck and back pain, the last thing you want to do is jeopardize your chances for success. That is why eating a healthy nutritious diet and following the doctor’s orders is so crucial. When you practice healthy eating habits and follow all of the doctor’s orders pre-surgery, you will most assuredly have a healthy outcome.
Before undergoing surgery, many patients will have a medical evaluation of some kind to get clearance for surgery. This is in addition to any pre-admissions testing. Many times, physicians, like neurosurgical associates can do the procedures right at their office. Typically, this is performed 2-3 days before the actual surgery.
If you are having any type of procedure provided by spine associates, you will most assuredly be asked to stop any anti-inflammatory medication ten days before the procedure as they can affect blood loss. Other medications to stop are any blood thinners or anti-coagulants.
To minimize any potential anesthesia complications, you will not be allowed to eat or drink for a certain time period before your surgery. Your neurosurgical and spine associate may even order a patient to take a special medicine like Celebrex a few days before.
Receiving any type of laser spine surgery is similar to preparing for an athletic event. If you have been practicing healthy habits by eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly, your surgical procedure is more likely to proceed smoothly and back on your feet healthier than before.
